1. Flowers were placed in the city in places such as parks and public benches.
2. A promoter was giving flowers in the street while another was passing out flyers. The flowers were given mainly to men.

Visiting the Hong Kong premium and gift fair

Yes, I know it's been already three weeks ago since I returned from the Hong Kong Premiumd and Gift Show, but unfortunatly I didn't have time to write about it. It's a pity because the fair was worth a long review here, on this blog ! This year again, I found many new and interesting products there.

The fair is big, about 4000 exhibitors from 38 countries are showing their products. hong kong fair The fair is big, about 4000 exhibitors from 38 countries are showing their products. The fair is very well organised, a pleasure after the Guanzhou labyrinth. Each hall has it's specific items and exhibitors and there is a lot of staff around to guide the nearly 30 000 visitors to the right places. This year, I really felt that the organisation was making a big effort to guide buyers to the right spots. At the entrance of each elevator at a new floor visitors’ badges are scanned again, i supose this will help the organisation for future years to become even more efficient. Out of the many trade shows I visited this year, this fair has the best organisation for sure.

Featured products include advertising gifts, pictures and photo frames, ceramic gifts, silverware, consumer electronics, stationery, corporate gifts, toys and sporting goods, fashion jewellery and accessories, travel goods, watches and clocks, general gift items, paper and packaging, and party and holiday decorations.

For the first time, exhibitors from Pakistan have put together a group pavilion.

Visitors are of all kinds, importers, distributors and final clients like Coca Cola, Carlsberg Brewery, Christian Dior and Moet Hennessy come to the fair.

Eco friendly products

Using eco friendly products for promotional use is becoming more and more populair in Dutch society. One of the reasons I think is that especially The Netherlands is dealing with a rising sea level. 2/3 of the nation is actually below sea level. A systems of dikes and pumps keeps the water out. However, this will become more and more difficult as the level is rising.
Because of the nationwide discussion about the environment, certain companies can benefit from this discussion about global warming.

Group 1: environmental groups
Off course the first group you think about are the environmental groups like Greenpeace and Unicef. It’s almost a must if an eco friendly option is available for a mousepad, a pen or a mug to use it for promotional use. Non-eco stuff is not an option then.

Group 2: “normal” companies
A new group of companies that uses ecofriendly products are the normal industrial companies. They use recycled items to raise public awareness about their brands.

An example is Coco-mat, an international retail company selling natural products like furniture, curtains, made from natural materials. They bought at www.zintuig.nl some ecopens made from recycled paper.

Another company aiming for global warming attention is the national retailer BCC. On their website www.groenestekker.nl they give advice about energy consumption of their products. With stickers on washing machines, dryers, hifi sets etc, etc, they want awareness about global warming and off course give the BCC image a nice boost.

The Guangzhou fair

After more than 20 hours of traveling, here I am in Guangzhou ( Canton ), China. Guangzhou is changing year after year, more and more brandnew high buildings, more and more infrastructure, large roads, viaducts and so on.
10 years ago it wasn't that easy to find a restaurant here, now you see the neonsigns everywhere and you can eat in Italian, French, Indian restaurants everywhere. Of course the refined American kitchen is also available under many golden arches. A friend just told me that 70% of all the cranes in the world are in China, this number sais enough about the way the country is changing.

The Guangzou fair is huge, estimate is 200 000 / 300 000 visitors from all over the world and an overall turnover created on the fair itself for 28 billion USD.
In the halls with Household items I found a few intersting products for the gifts and premium market but there is not a specific section for gifts and premiums. The fair is devided in two halls, the old and the new building, the old one is a similar to the grand Bazar of Istanbull where you get lost so easily. The second building is ultra modern, extremely well organised.
